An acoustic duo is the smallest live band you can hire in Singapore: two musicians, a light setup and a warm, natural sound. It is the usual choice for a solemnisation, a church ceremony, a cocktail hour, a garden wedding, a restaurant dinner or a party at home, where a full band would be too loud or too big for the space.
Price: a duo usually costs SGD 800 to 2,500 for a wedding performance, a trio SGD 1,500 to 3,500 and a four to five piece band SGD 3,000 to 7,000. See what a live band costs in Singapore.
Types of duo you can book
- Acoustic duo. A singer with an acoustic guitar, or guitar with cajon, violin or ukulele. Relaxed and warm, for weddings, brunches and receptions.
- Vocal duo. Two singers in harmony, for love songs at a ceremony or a corporate dinner.
- Pop duo. Chart hits and upbeat covers for a party or a younger crowd.
- Jazz duo. Piano and vocals, or saxophone and keyboard, for cocktails and brand launches.
- Cultural duo. A Chinese, Malay or Indian instrumental pair for a ceremony or a heritage theme.
- Instrumental duo. Violin and cello, or guitar and saxophone, for soft background music.
Why choose a 2 piece band
A duo needs little space and a light sound setup, so it fits places a bigger band cannot: a small stage, a rooftop, a garden corner, a restaurant or a private dining room. Guests can still talk while it plays. Setup and changeovers are quick, which helps when the venue gives you a short load in window.
Where a duo works best
- Solemnisation and ceremony. A 20 to 30 minute set for the walk in, the signing and the walk out.
- Cocktail hour. Easy covers while guests arrive and you take photos.
- Wedding dinner in a small room. Soft sets between courses.
- Corporate receptions, award nights and launches. Refined background music that does not compete with speeches.
- Birthdays and anniversaries. A living room, a garden or a function room.
When to choose something bigger
A duo carries a ceremony and dinner well, but a dance floor usually needs a live rhythm section. If you want people dancing, look at a 3 piece band or a four to five piece band. Many couples book a duo for the ceremony and dinner and a DJ for the dance segment, which often costs less than a full band all evening. See the wedding live band page for the full day.
Songs and languages
Duos play pop, jazz, classics and current hits, in English and in Mandarin or Malay. Send your list early, with the moment each song is for. Your walk in song and first dance song are normally included.
