To hire a wedding band in Singapore, settle your date, venue, guest count and mood first, set a budget, then ask two or three agencies for quotes four to six months ahead. Compare quotes by the number of musicians, the sets and the sound equipment, not by the total, and get every detail in writing.
Step 1: Settle four things
- Date. November to January and the weekends around Lunar New Year book out first.
- Venue. A hotel ballroom, a garden, a restaurant or a rooftop each need a different band size and sound.
- Guest count. It sets the size of the room and the band.
- Mood. Romantic and low key, or a dance floor from the first song.
These four answers are what any agency needs to suggest bands that are free and suit your room, instead of a generic list.
Step 2: Set the budget
Fix a budget before you start watching videos. It narrows the search and stops you falling for a band size you cannot afford once sound and travel are added. As a guide, a duo usually costs SGD 800 to 2,500, a trio SGD 1,500 to 3,500 and a four to five piece band SGD 3,000 to 7,000. See the price guide.
Step 3: Choose the band size
- Solemnisation only. A solo musician or an acoustic duo for 20 to 30 minutes.
- Dinner without much dancing. A duo or a 3 piece band.
- Ballroom banquet with a dance floor. A four to five piece band.
- Budget saver. A duo for the ceremony and dinner, then a DJ for dancing.
Step 4: Watch full videos
Ask for a full performance video, not a 90 second highlight. How a band handles a quiet dinner set matters as much as how it sounds at full volume.
Step 5: Plan the sets and songs
A standard wedding booking is two to three sets of about 45 minutes:
- Cocktail music for 30 to 45 minutes as guests arrive.
- A pause for speeches and the march in, with your entrance song played live.
- A first set during dinner.
- A livelier set after the cake cutting.
Fix the march in and first dance songs about a month before. Add two or three requests for dinner, and let the band run its party list on the dance floor.
Step 6: Check the venue
- Load in and sound check. One to two hours before guests arrive. Ask the venue when the band can load in.
- Sound. In a ballroom, the venue's AV team works with the band's engineer. In a tent, garden or private estate, confirm who provides the stage and the sound.
- Curfew. Ask what time the venue cuts sound, before you fix the last set.
Step 7: Get it in writing
"Three sets" can mean 45 minutes each or 30. Get in writing:
- the number of musicians;
- the number and length of sets, and the total hours;
- the sound system and engineer;
- the custom songs;
- the overtime rate, agreed before the day.
A quote without a sound engineer is not comparable to one with an engineer. Fixing it on the day with a rented PA and a technician can add SGD 500 to 1,500.
Step 8: Book early, then confirm
Book four to six months ahead, eight to nine for peak dates. Confirm the set list about a month out, and the timeline and load in with the venue the week before. See the wedding live band page, then send your details on WhatsApp or through the quote form.
