Wedding live band price table (SGD)

Band Typical price Best suited to
Solo musician or singer 500 to 1,500 Solemnisation, cocktail hour, a small ceremony
Duo, singer and instrumentalist 800 to 2,500 Cocktail hour, a church ceremony, a smaller banquet room
Trio 1,500 to 3,500 A mid size banquet, a garden or outdoor solemnisation
Four to five piece band 3,000 to 7,000 A full hotel ballroom banquet with a dance segment
Full band with strings, brass or extra vocalists 5,000 to 12,000 or more A grand ballroom and larger guest lists

These are starting ranges. A popular band on a Saturday in December sits near the top of its range; the same size band on a weekday in March often comes in near the bottom.

For a corporate event, a 4 to 6 piece band usually costs SGD 2,800 to 7,000 for two 45 minute sets, with a premium of roughly 15 to 30 percent for Chinese New Year, December and Friday evenings. See the corporate events page.

What moves the price

  1. Musicians on stage. The biggest factor. A duo needs one small sound system; a five piece needs every instrument miked and an engineer.
  2. Sets and hours. The standard is two to three sets of about 45 minutes. A fourth set or music with no breaks adds musician hours and crew time.
  3. Experience. Bands with years of weekly ballroom work quote higher than newer bands of the same size.
  4. Venue and load in. Sentosa venues, high floors or a venue without a loading bay can add a transport or logistics line.
  5. Sound and lighting. Either bundled in or billed separately. Check before you compare.
  6. Custom songs. One or two arrangements, usually the march in and first dance, are normally included. More, especially with strings or horns, may carry a rehearsal fee.
  7. Season. November to January and Lunar New Year weekends are peak. March, July and September and weekdays are quieter.

What a standard package includes

  • Two to three sets of about 45 minutes.
  • A sound system and an engineer sized to the room.
  • One or two custom songs, usually the march in and the first dance.
  • A call or meeting about a month before the wedding to confirm the set list.

Often not included: stage lighting beyond a basic wash, an emcee, overtime past the agreed hours, and travel or parking outside the usual hotel circuit.

How to compare two quotes

Two quotes at the same total are not the same if one includes the sound engineer and the other expects you to rent a PA. Ask every quote to show the number of musicians, the number and length of sets, and the sound equipment. Fixing a missing sound system on the wedding day, with a rented PA and a last minute technician, can add SGD 500 to 1,500. Agree the overtime rate before the day too. The guide to hiring a wedding band has a full checklist.

Ways to spend less

  • Pick a weekday or an off peak month.
  • Book a duo for the ceremony and dinner and a DJ for the dance floor.
  • Match the band size to the room, not the other way round.
  • Set your budget before you watch videos of bigger bands.
